IMORTANT NOTICE: DIASPORA TRUST FUND

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed recently made an appeal to the Diaspora community to support ongoing reforms in Ethiopia by establishing a ‘Diaspora Trust Fund’ to reduce aid dependency and boost investment.

The Embassy appreciates the Diaspora’s enthusiasm to Prime Minister’s Abiy’s call to contributing a $1 / £1 a day towards the Trust Fund. However, we have recently been made aware of some people engaging in fraudulent acts of soliciting money for the Trust Fund.

We can confirm that the Fund is still in the process of being set up and therefore advise the Diaspora to remain vigilant and not to fall victim to any scams.

The Embassy is closely following developments and will notify you when the Trust Fund has been set up and made public, and how contributions can be made.

A report by ForwardKeys shows that the number of long-haul transfers to Africa via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport has grown in volume by 85% for five years in a row.
