Global Black History, Heritage, and Education Centre (GBHHEC) commemorated the 127th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa today under the theme: “Unity, Bravery, and Perseverance.”
The Steering Committee for the establishment of the Global Black History, Heritage, and Education Centre (GBHHEC) in #AddisAbaba, #Ethiopia along with scholars, authorities on Black History, dignitaries, as well as prominent individuals commemorated the 127th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa today under the theme: “Unity, Bravery, and Perseverance.”
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Teferi Melesse said the Victory of Adwa has been of extreme significance for Ethiopia, Africa, and the entire black race. He further noted that the Victory of ADWA has made a tremendous contribution to the fight for freedom on the African continent and to comparable conflicts against oppression everywhere else in the world. “For Black people who have endured prejudice and suffering, especially in the Caribbean and the Americas, the Victory of Adwa also serves as a beacon of light,” he added.
The Ambassador notrd that the Victory of Adwa symbolized a victory of the black people, both in Africa and beyond, and underlined the growing sense of unity among Africans and people of African descent, adding that “the greatness of Ethiopia’s role in the history of Africa makes me believe that no other country is better placed to preserve and showcase African culture and history than itself.” In connection, he further underscored that the Government of Ethiopia has taken the initiative to build the Adwa Pan-African University and Museum and the Zero Zero Adwa project in a bid to mark Adwa as a global historic treasure for the Pan-African movement.
The commemoration event also included a series of presentations on the Victory of Adwa and its significance to Africa and beyond followed by a panel discussion on the upcoming trip of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the Global Black History, Heritage, and Education Centre (GBHHEC) to Addis Ababa, due on April 11, 2023.
