Festive Message from Ambassador Teferi Melesse, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland
On behalf of diplomats and staff members at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, my wife, Mekdes Amaha, our sons, Michael, Samuel and Beimnet, I would like to extend our very best wishes on the advent of Christmas and the New year to the Ethiopian community and friends of Ethiopia in the United Kingdom.
The last couple of years were trying times to Ethiopians in light of the conflict that occurred in northern part of our country. Despite the challenges, a new dawn has now come in Ethiopia as peace has prevailed in the wake of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
It is imperative to say that I was inspired by the efforts of Ethiopians who demonstrated their commitment to defend the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. I can truly affirm that in doing so we once again lived up to the promise of Ethiopian unity bequeathed to us by all who came before us.
Going forward, it is my sincere conviction that 2023 will be a year of optimism. Through our unity and consensus, we can finally get on with the work of building an inclusive, democratic, and prosperous Ethiopia. In this regard, I call upon Ethiopians at home and abroad as well as friends of Ethiopia to join hands in the national efforts of rehabilitation and reconstruction.
In the pursuit of this vision, the role of our partners in the United Kingdom cannot be overlooked, as we endeavour to further consolidate our excellent relations and work for the cause of global peace and mutual prosperity. I, personally, look forward to continuing productive discussions with His Majesty’s Government, Parliament, and a growing galaxy of British businesses and institutions as we seek to deepen these engagements.
Once again, on behalf of my family and the Embassy, I would like to wish you joy, health, and peace, this festive season and beyond.
