Ethiopian Embassy in collaboration with East Africa Association hosted business briefing event
The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in collaboration with East Africa Association organized a hybrid event aiming at briefing UK investors on Ethiopia’s Economic and Political Reforms.
Ambassador Teferi Melesse, Ambassador of Ethiopia to UK, in his remarks underscored the gathering as a useful event to acquaint the business community of UK with the opportunities and potentials of investing and doing business in Ethiopia while appreciating the launch of UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) as a milestone that could strengthen Ethiopia’s exports to the UK. He also underlined the long history of diplomatic relation that fostered cooperation and a mutual understanding on strategic focus areas of the two countries. Furthermore, he noted the excellent cooperation Ethiopia and UK have had in the maintenance of regional peace and stability. He also explained in detail the importance of Ethiopia’s strategic location as a gateway to Africa. He also, indicated that Ethiopia’s being the seat of the African Union, the continent’s logistical hub, and hosting of over 100 diplomatic missions as opportunity for the access of market.
Dr. Brook Taye, Director General of Ethiopian Capital Market provided presentation on financial service reforms the government of Ethiopia has put in place in the last four years and the progress of capital market owing to the reform.
Mr. Temesgen Tilahun, Deputy Commissioner of Ethiopian Investment Commission, has also provided presentation showcasing miscellaneous reforms Ethiopia has undertaken in the investment sector to create an enabling environment for investors and urged UK investors to engage in the untapped, key investment priorities of Ethiopia.
