Ethiopia to hold 2020 elections on 29th August
The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced that 29th August will be the date for the next parliamentary elections.
The date is two weeks later than the electoral board had previously indicated (16th August), on account of the weather.
“Looking at parts of the country which will be affected by the rainy season, pushing the schedule a little further will ease our burden,” NEBE chairwoman Birtukan Mideksa said at a conference held in Addis Ababa on election preparations.
Voter registration is due to begin in April and political parties can commence their campaigns late in May.
According to the new schedule, the final results of the election will be announced from 30th August to 8th September.
