Ethiopia Defence Forces Take Retaliatory Measures
The Ethiopian Defence Forces have taken retaliatory measures after repulsing an attempted attack by the Eritrean army on Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Tsorona Front.
The ability of the Eritrean army to take offensive measures was drastically curtailed by the proportionate measures taken by the Ethiopian army.
The Ethiopian government hopes that the Eritrean government has learnt from these proportionate measures that it will not go unpunished whenever it acts recklessly.
This skirmish follows the recent UN report which exposed human rights abuses perpetrated by the Eritrean government. The provocation, therefore, could be an attempt to divert the attention of the Eritrean people and that of the international community away from the findings of this report.
The next move of the Ethiopian army will depend on the actions the Eritrean government takes.
The Ethiopian army will continue to take proportionate measures if the Eritrean army engages in further acts of provocation.
