Discover Ethiopia: The Land of Origins
Origin of Humankind
In 1974, in the Afar region, scientists uncovered Dinknesh, known to the world as Lucy. She lived about 3.2 million years ago, and her remains showed that our ancestors walked upright. Stand where she stood, and you are standing at important scientific evidence for the origin of humankind.

The Birthplace of Coffee
Legend says a goat herder named Kaldi noticed his goats dancing after eating red berries from a wild shrub. That discovery became arabica coffee, now loved across the world. In Ethiopia, coffee is a ceremony: fresh-roasted beans, drifting incense and three rounds of conversation with friends.
