UK Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ambassador McPhail presents his credentials
State Minister Dr Markos Tekle received the letter of credentials from Dr Alastair McPhail CMG OBE, the newly appointed UK Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti (Non-Resident) and Permanent Representative to the AU and UN Economic Commission for Africa.
In discussions after the presentation ceremony, Dr Markos welcomed the UK’s endeavour in maintaining excellent relations with Ethiopia in all domains of cooperation, helping to boost political, cultural, economic and social relations by offering a wide range of services and funding of various projects in Ethiopia for more than 100 years.
State Minister Dr Markos commended the UK’s business, trade, and inbound investment partnership with Ethiopia that have helped Ethiopia attain double digit economic growth over the last two decades.
Ambassador McPhail said he appreciated the complementary relations between Ethiopia and the UK, highlighting the true friendship and common vision both countries enjoyed, including collaboration on a plethora of issues of mutual concern at regional and global levels.
Great Britain was among the first countries to open an embassy in Addis Ababa, while Ethiopia was the first African country to establish an embassy in London. Both countries collaborate on many issues of mutual concern at the regional and global levels.
Ethiopia’s relations with the UK are among the most dependable, mature and mutually beneficial of any that it has with other countries.
