The Government of Ethiopia is Committed to Address the Humanitarian Needs of People in Tigray Region
The Ethiopian government has taken initiatives to encourage the distribution of humanitarian aid to persons in need in Tigray. To this purpose, it has expanded the number of UN humanitarian flights and enhanced check-in processes to expedite the transfer of fuel and funds for relief payments. Humanitarian assistance has been delivered via ICRC, WHO, and European Union flights. The government has also worked to promote humanitarian aid to be delivered via the Abara-Mekele route.
Thousands of people are now traveling from Tigray neighboring places in quest of assistance. While it is heartening to observe the community’s bonds and solidarity in embracing and assisting people in need, the government will assist individuals in need in their area. The government believes that immediate action is required to achieve this. Relieving the plight of those affected by the conflict is a top priority, and the government has taken this responsibility seriously. The Government of Ethiopia is committed to making every effort to promote an unobstructed flow of emergency humanitarian aid to the Tigray region.
The Ethiopian government has announced an immediate and indefinite humanitarian truce, recognizing the need to take special steps to save lives and reduce human casualties. The government has been scaling its commitment to cooperate with the necessary organizations to address the humanitarian needs of its citizens.
To optimize the success of the humanitarian truce, the government calls upon the insurgents in Tigray to desist from all acts of further aggression and withdraw from areas they have occupied in neighboring regions.
The Government of Ethiopia hopes that this truce will substantially improve the humanitarian situation on the ground and pave the way for the resolution of the conflict in northern Ethiopia without further bloodshed.
