Briefing the Ambassador on his recent visit to Ethiopia, the Minister expressed great optimism in the current administration’s reforms and the opportunities it would yield for further UK investment into Ethiopia.

Europe will soon discover the delicious fruit and vegetables Ethiopia has to offer! On 22nd August, Ethiopia carried out its first export of avocados by train from Modjo Dry Port, under a pilot project forming part of the National Cool Logistics Network. The 24-tonne refrigerated consignment was produced by dozens of farmers in the Koga area, south of Bahir Dar.

The Ethiopian Communications Authority received 12 bids for two telecom licences following the announcement of plans to liberalise the economy and allow foreign and private investors into key state-owned companies. Of the 12 submissions, nine are telecom operators, two are non-telecom operators and one was incomplete.

Following Prime Minister Abiy’s announcement of plans to liberalise the economy and allow foreign and private investors into key state-owned companies, the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) is proceeding with plans to privatise the telecoms sector, after delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Ethiopia resumed its World Trade Organization (WTO) membership accession negotiations at the 4th meeting of the Working Party held on 30th January. Mr Mamo Mihretu, chief trade negotiator, led a high-level government delegation in what was the first meeting of the working party in almost eight years.
