International registration for Great Ethiopian Run, the biggest road race in Africa, opens

7 Jun 2019

International Registration for the 2019 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run opened on 6th June.

45,000 participants are expected to take part in this year’s race on Sunday 17th November.

For the past 17 years the race, which starts and finishes in Meskel Square, has been the biggest road race in Africa. It is also one of the liveliest and most colourful races in the world and is often referred to as Ethiopia’s biggest street party.

For the past three years, the race has used a wave start to accommodate greater numbers of runners. The same wave start will be in operation again this year.

Through its fundraising campaign, the event raises money for local and international charities, with many international runners coming to the race to visit and support local projects. More than 600 international participants took part in the race last year with many staying for several days to tour Ethiopia.

You can find out more about participating in the race by visiting the Race’s website at http://bit.ly/GER-2019.

International participants can register for the race as individuals at www.q-buster.co.uk.

If you are interested in organising a group to join the race, the Great Ethiopian Run organisers can help you. Email richard@ethiopianrun.org.
