Ethiopian Run, the annual 10 kilometre race described by Olympic Champion Haile
Gebrselassie as being like a ‘national holiday’, opens on Monday 9th
October 2006.
This year’s competition is the sixth edition of the event that has, since 2002, become Africa’s biggest road race, and will take place on Sunday 26th November 2006. This year the third leg of the AIMS Children’s Series is being incorporated into the weekend’s running activities with races for children aged under-8 and under-11 to be staged on the Saturday morning before the main 10km race. The 10km race welcomes runners of all levels and especially visitors from abroad.
Race organisers recently announced that Morocco’s Olympic 1500m and 5000m champion Hichem El Guerrouj and Sweden’s 2004 Olympic heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft will be attending as VIP guests.
Registration will open on Monday 9th October in centres in Addis Ababa, including Dembel City Centre, Dashen Bank Mercato, the Hilton Addis Ababa and Addis Ababa Main Stadium.

A US $20 race registration fee is applicable, for which entrants will be given a race pack with a souvenir race T-shirt. This pack will not be sent out to competitors from overseas, but will be available for collection on arrival in Ethiopia, upon payment of the $20 fee.
Meanwhile, the date for next year’s Great Ethiopian Run has been set. The 10km ‘Millennium Run’ will take place on Sunday 9th September 2007 and will coincide with celebrations for the Ethiopian Millennium on 11th September 2007.
