NEBE announces official results for 435 federal seats

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) released official results yesterday for a further 128 federal parliament seats, brining the total number of official results announced so far to 435.

Out of the 435 official results that have now been declared for the House of Peoples’ Representatives, the EPRDF has won 241 seats, the CUD 108 seats and the UEDF 51 seats.

The breakdown of the 435 results is as follows:

EPRDF - Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front - 241

CUD - Coalition for Unity and Democracy - 108

UEDF - United Ethiopian Democratic Force - 51

OFDM - Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement - 11

BGPDUF - 8

ANDP - Afar National Democratic Party - 8

GPDM - Gambela People’s Democratic Movement - 3

SMPDUO - Sheko and Mezenger Peoples’ Democratic Unity Organisation - 1

SPDP - 1

HNL - Hareri National League - 1

ANDO - 1

Independent - 1

Eighty-eight of the 128 results declared were those which Complaint Investigation Panels (CIPs) recommended the provisional results be upheld and the remaining 40 are the ones rejected by the Complaints Review Body (CRB) after initial hearings.

Following the recommendations by the CIPs, the NEBE has ordered that elections be re-run in 15 constituencies. NEBE Chairman Ato Kemal Bedri said “All re-run elections will take place on 21 August, on the same day as the elections in the Somali region.”

Ato Kemal also said that the official results for the remaining 74 constituencies where elections took place on 15th May would be announced upon the completion of the investigation process in those constituencies; a process which should be completed within the next 14 days. These include 37 constituencies where the NEBE has ordered investigations following the recommendation of the Complaints Body. It is possible that further election re-runs may be ordered.

Official results for regional councils will also be released in the next announcement.

The list of winners for the House of People’s Representatives is available at the NEBE’s website www.electionsethiopia.org
