MoARD trains 65,000 agricultural experts

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD) said it has realized 70 percent of the plan to train 65,000 agricultural experts in five years in the Agricultural Technique and Vocational Education and Training Colleges across the country.

The ministry announced as it had plans to train 65,000 medium level agricultural experts in 25 colleges from 2004 to 2008.

Accordingly, It has so far trained 45,000 medium level agricultural experts, including those that are going to graduate at the end of this month, the ministry said.

The Ministry added that so far 70 percent of the plan is accomplished and it will be fully completed by the coming year.

The experts, which would be providing professional support for farmers living close to them, have been trained in animal health, plant science, soil protection and cooperative works.

According to the ministry, the graduated agricultural experts have been offering professional support to make farmers focus on improved agricultural technologies, use agricultural inputs and give due attention to market oriented products.

The major task of the expert in the future will be giving training in farmers training centers that would be established in each rural kebele throughout the country, MoARD said, adding that 18,000 farmers training centers are under construction. (ENDS)
