Haile victorious in Manchester

Haile Gebrselassie smashed the UK all-comers 10k record yesterday, when he won the BUPA Great Manchester Run. Haile’s shaved 14 seconds off the previous record – set by Kenya’s Felix Limo in Swansea 3 years ago – when he crossed the finishing line in 27 minutes and 25 seconds.

Haile has now set his sights on the marathon world record – 2 hours, four minutes and 55 seconds set by Kenyan Paul Tergat – and will compete at the ING Amsterdam Marathon 16th October.

The double Olympic 10,000 metres champion retired from championship track running to focus on marathons. His victory on Sunday demonstrated he is back on form after an Achilles injury ended his London Marathon bid earlier this year.
