Great Ethiopian Run on UK Channel Five

Channel Five will broadcast highlights of the 2004 TOYOTA Great Ethiopian Run tonight. The 50 minute programme will air from 00:15 to 01:05 in the early hours of Thursday 6th January.

The fourth Great Ethiopian Run, covering 10km, took place on the 28th November last year with over 20,000 competitors.

Abebe Dinkesa and Genet Getaneh won the men’s and women’s event respectively, with finishing times of 29 mins 57 secs, and 34 mins 18 secs.

The 10.2km race was started by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Haile Gebrselassie, and saw International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) President Lamine Diack in attendance – the presence of both providing an indicator of just how popular the biggest race in Africa has become. Hollywood Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover handed out medals to the victors.

Preparations are underway for this year’s Great Ethiopian Run – scheduled for Sunday 27th November 2005 - which will see a host of celebrities running against the world’s best.
