(1 June 2007)

The cooperation between Ethiopia and United States in fighting terrorism is satisfactory, Foreign Affairs Minister Seyoum Mesfin said.

After talks with Senator Bill Nelson, Seyoum confirmed that the two countries would bolster their cooperation in areas of ensuring peace and security and fighting terrorism.

Concerning the current situation in Somalia, Seyoum said Somalia’s affairs should be left for the people and the government of that country.

He said the international community should provide support to an all-embracing national reconciliation conference that would be held in Somalia next month.

Senator Bill Nelson on his part said United States and Ethiopia have the same stand regarding terrorism.

The Senator appreciated the economic growth registered for four consecutive years in the country and the efforts Ethiopia is making to enhance the education and health sectors, among others.

He said the political developments taking place in Ethiopia is also encouraging.(ENDS)
