AU Encouraged by Acceptance of Decision

The following press release was issued today by the African Union.

The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Alpha Oumar Konare welcomes the announcement by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of the acceptance in principle of the Ethiopia-Eritrea Boundary Commission (EEBC) decision.

“Ethiopia’s peace proposal constitutes an encouraging development in the efforts to promote lasting peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as in the region of the Horn of Africa as a whole.”

 “The AU is committed to provide whatever assistance necessary to help the two countries move forward with the implementation of the EEBC decision and the normalization of relations.”
