Three textile factories launch exporting their products

Some three new textile factories, established with close to 100 million birr by Ethiopian and Pakistani investors in Dukem and Bishoftu towns of Oromia state, have reportedly been expanding the competitiveness of the country in foreign market.

Briefing a visiting group led by Minister of Trade and Industry, Girma Biru, owner of Crown Textile Factory, Mulu Abrha, said that the factory, with 50 million birr initial capital, has exported some 8,000 meters Abujadid to Europe after its establishment some eight years back.

Preparation is also well underway to export factory's product to U S America in the future, she said.

The factory, which comprises threading, dying, weaving and finishing components has currently created jobs for 100 people, according to Mulu.

Owner and Manger of the 33 million birr Textile Factory, Nova Star, Bekele Legesse, said on his part that the factory has been upgrading its competitiveness by supplying various sizes of pajamas, sport wears and T-shirts to local and foreign markets.

The factory has the capacity to export up to six containers of clothes in a month, he said, adding that it has created jobs for 260 people.

Besides, a textile factory, which was established in Bishoftu town with over 15 million birr by three Pakistanis under the name Almehedi Industrial Group, has been supplying currently more than 2,000 meters of shawl per day to local and Pakistan markets, according to the factory manager, Asad Ali.

Owners and Manager of the factories have expressed appreciation to support being provided by the government there by requesting the pertinent body to put in place conducive conditions for the availability of cotton produce and loan services.

Trade and Industry Minister, Girma Biru, said on his part that though cotton produce would be supplied through entrepreneurs, a plan has been designed to develop cotton species suitable for textile production.

He further said that favorable conditions, including loan services, would be created by the government so as to improve the production capacity of the factories and boost export produces.

The minister further said that the investors need to produce market oriented products and upgrade their capacity by giving due attention for export products.(ENDS)
