Accession to WTO help Ethiopia to be globally competitive
(29 NOV 2007)
The Ministry of Trade and Industry said accession to World Trade Organization (WTO) would help Ethiopia to make its commercial laws standard and secure reliable market access.
WTO affair Department with the ministry also added Ethiopia requests WTO membership with the view to secure reliable market access, to amend national trade laws to be competitive globally and to enhance capacity in the sector.
Most of Ethiopian products could not able to penetrate the international market because of their limitation to meet international standard, the department indicated.
Members of WTO accepted Ethiopia’s request of membership, the department said, adding that the Ethiopian government is striving to fulfill standards of the WTO conventions.(ENDS)
